Square Care Achieves LEED Certification

The company owner, Scott Price enlisted the support of Key Square Care Staff along with a verdecom and specific vendors to support the Certification process as one cohesive team.

Prior to the initial kick off meeting the Team was able to efficiently move through the initial Design Charrette and was therefore able to begin the project with a very solid foundation. Square Care management and key staff is committed to the USGBC Arizona Chapter and assembled a team of professionals from that Chapters membership. The owner operator made the commitment with the support of the design team to ensure that natural light would be available to all office staff.

Furthermore the project scope made full use of utility conservation measures through the use of both occupancy and daylight sensors for its lighting coupled with a reduction of 2.5 Tons of Cooling as part of a value engineering solution.

The owner was also quite resourceful and in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity and their general contractor was able to re-purpose a significant amount of materials including, all office furniture, millwork, lighting fixtures and carpet tiles.

The greatest challenges to the project were its relatively small footprint of 3,820 square feet and the fact that it was the first “owner condo” to attempt LEED Certification within the Office Park.

It is hoped that based on the increased awareness of the development company and that of the projects neighbors that additional spaces will opt for LEED Certification or at a minimum more sustainable operations.
