Black Hills Power and Cheyenne Light, Fuel & Power, subsidiaries of the Black Hills Corp, have filed an application with Wyoming Public Service Commission for building a natural gas generator in Wyoming. Black Hills Power intends to build and operate a new natural gas-fired electricity generation plant that will entail an investment of $237 million. The new plant will be built within the limits of Cheyenne city.

The proposed facility is likely to have one simple-cycle combustion turbine unit that will have a net capacity of about 37 megawatts. This unit will be completely owned by Cheyenne Light. The facility will also have one combined-cycle unit that will have a net capacity of about 95 megawatts. This combined cycle unit will be jointly owned by Black Hills Power and Cheyenne Light. Cheyenne Light own 40 megawatts, while the remaining 55 megawatts will be owned by Black Hills Power.

If the proposal wins approval of the Wyoming Public Service Commission, Black Hills will commence the construction in 2012 and initiate operation in 2014.
