Alstom SA, in consortium with Sumitomo Corporation of Japan, has won an EPC contract from Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) to build and supply equipment for the 850MW gas fired combined-cycle power plant (CCPP) block 2 in North Bangkok, Thailand.

Alstom’s share in the contract is about €225 million ($305.81 million). The CCPP will be equipped with Alstom’s two upgraded GT26 gas turbines, turbo-generators, heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), steam turbines and distribution control system.

The upgraded GT26 gas turbine offers greater operational flexibility, reliability and availability, resulting in improved efficiency with lower emissions. The plant will supply electricity to meet the demand of Bangkok and will be helpful in reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.

EGAT is Thailand’s public utility and the largest power producer in the country, with a combined installed base of over 13,000MW, about 47.8% of the country’s generating capacity. The other projects of Alstom include 730MW Bowin, 350MW Bang Bo and 1,520MW Kaeng Khoi 2 projects.
