Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG), in a joint venture with Al Latifia Trading and Contracting, has won a SAR278 million ($74 million) contract to develop a Proton Therapy Centre at King Fahad Medical City in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The project will be delivered as a part of the Ministry of Health King Fahad Medical City Prince Salmon Heart Centre Expansion project, which involves construction of new medical centres on the current King Fahad Medical City campus.

The Proton Therapy Centre spans across three levels, including two basement levels and a ground floor entrance. The centre will be connected to the main hospital building and the new Central Services Building.

The Central Services Building will also provide electrical and mechanical services to the main King Fahad Medical City project, which is being delivered by HLG.

HLG plans to build the new facility using Building Information Modeling (BIM) approach, which will enable HLG to digitally build the Proton Therapy Centre in 3D to coordinate the works of all subcontractors and test the design, construction and operation in a simulated environment

The construction work on the project is set to commence in 2012 and will be completed in 18 months.
