Baylor Scott & White Health and the Irving Hospital Authority have selected Turner to build a 126-bed tower and renovate a number of key spaces, expanding their ability to serve and care for the growing, Irving, Texas community.

Turner Construction Company is pleased to share that the owner/developer team of Irving Hospital Authority and Baylor Scott & White Health has selected Turner to lead a $140 million expansion and renovationโ€”including a new bed towerโ€”known as the Renaissance Project.

The Perkins+Will designed tower will rise seven stories and feature 162,000 square feet of patient rooms and care support spaces, as well as infrastructure enhancements, to their campus in Irving, Texas. Renovations will upgrade cardiac cath labs, endoscopy and dialysis labs, hybrid operating rooms and the hospitalโ€™s womenโ€™s health center, as well as the main entrance and lobby. The team will also make updates to the original building’s exterior, taking special care when making tie-ins to the new tower.

โ€œBeyond the 126 added beds, which will enable Baylor to meaningfully expand their service to the community, the project includes construction of a new central utility plant and renovations to both front and back-of-house areas in the hospitalโ€™s original facilities,โ€ said Steve Whitcraft, healthcare director for Turner, noting that the hospital will remain fully open and operational throughout construction. โ€œThe careful planning and sequencing of work is critical when working in an occupied space โ€“ especially a hospital. Weโ€™re looking forward to working closely with care providers and hospital staff to minimize disruption to their clinical operations as we deliver these new and updated spaces.โ€

With construction begun in the fall of 2017, the Renaissance Project is scheduled for completion in May 2020.
