A-Plant’s specialist pipeline equipment subsidiary PSS Hire, has invested on new pipe bursting equipment not seen in the UK before.

Following a 12-month product innovation and development period, PSS Hire has invested more than £500,000 in new models of pipe-bursting equipment from the Scandinavian No-Dig Centre. These T47 and T85 pipe bursters are designed for use on existing water mains and provide a like-for-like replacement for much larger equipment.

Soren Nielsen, CEO of Scandinavian No-Dig Centre, said: “In conjunction with PSS Hire, we have designed and produced two new models of pipe bursting equipment which raise the bar for standards in the UK. During the design phase, we specifically had the hire industry in mind and simplicity and durability were two key features which we have successfully achieved.”

The T47 pipe bursters have gone straight out on hire for use on several contracts across the UK, including on a five-year framework agreement with Scottish Water. The T47 has 47 tonnes of static pull-back power and is capable of replacing pipes from 90mm up to 315mm diameter. Narrow and lightweight in design, it fits between even the closest parallel installations, PSS says.

The T85 model has 85 tonnes static pull back power and can be used to replace pipes up to 450mm diameter.
