Leighton Contractors Pty Limited, as part of the Gateway WA Alliance, has reached agreement with Main Roads WA on the various aspects of AUD1 billion ($890 million) Gateway WA Perth Airport and Freight Access Project in Western Australia, Australia.

The Gateway WA Alliance has reached an agreement on the price, scope and construction methodology of the project. The project will improve the road network around Perth Airport and the nearby Kewdale and Forrestfield industrial estates.

The scope of work includes development of extra lanes on Tonkin Highway, new interchanges and the upgrade of Leach Highway to an expressway. The construction has been staged in multiple phases and is scheduled for completion in early 2017, ahead of the planned expansion and consolidation of the Perth airport terminals.

The Gateway WA Alliance includes Leighton Contractors and partners Georgiou, GHD, AECOM and BG&E. The estimated value of the contract awarded to the alliance is AUD899 million ($800.12 million), of which 68% of the share is commanded by Leighton.
