Kier, a leading property, residential, construction and services group, has been selected to deliver two key lots of the HS2 project, totaling £1.4bn.

Working in the CEK joint venture, Kier will be delivering two of the seven civil engineering packages – lots C2 and C3. Lot C2 will see the construction of the north portal Chiltern tunnels to Brackley in an £724m project, while Lot C3 is for the £616m Brackley to Long Itchington Wood Green tunnel south portal.Work is due to begin on these projects later this year and is expected to take between four and five years to complete.

These awards demonstrate the outstanding expertise the CEK joint venture brings together, in the design, construction, operation, financing and maintenance of railway networks in Europe, including high speed rail systems and their infrastructure.

Kier is a major delivery partner on some of Europe’s largest infrastructure projects, including the £16bn Crossrail project and £450m Mersey Gateway scheme. It is also delivering site preparation works for EDF’s Hinkley Point power station.Commenting on the award, Haydn Mursell, Kier chief executive, said: “We’re extremely pleased to have been chosen to deliver these two vital lots of the country’s largest infrastructure project to date.

“Establishing the CEK joint venture enabled us to bring together the combined talents of three major infrastructure partners to provide a high quality solution for HS2. At Kier, we have an established record of delivering significant infrastructure projects and we’re looking forward to playing a key role in HS2.”
