Hertfordshire-based JMS Plant Hire has continued its investment in big boom lifts with the purchase of the first Genie SX-180 in the UK.

The straight boom SX-180 is the biggest lift in the Genie range. JMS recently also bought a ZX-135/70, which is Genie’s biggest articulating boom.

Both machines were supplied by Terex Genie dealer Access Platform Sales (APS).

The SX-180 went straight out on cross hire with HSS Hire, which supplied the boom to Portsmouth Demolition & Salvage. The contractor used the boom on the demolition of the tower and spire of Punshon Memorial Church in Bournemouth town centre, which is being replaced with an apartment block.

The SX-180 provides a maximum platform height of 54.86m (180ft) and up to 24.38m (80ft) of outreach.

JMS Plant Hire managing director Mark Jackson said: “The Genie SX-180 is a great addition to our fleet. We continue to invest in the best machines at the top end of the scale, as part of our strategy to be the national supplier of choice for big booms and scissors.”

Founded in 2000, JMS Plant Hire has an access fleet of more than 1,200 machines including more than 50 lifts with working heights of 80ft or higher.
