Calgary’s ZS2 receives $2.6 million grant for low carbon construction technology

ZS2 Technologies has received a $2.6 million grant to develop air capture technology to permanently sequester CO2 from the atmosphere and turn it into high performance cement building materials. The grant was awarded by Sustainable Development and Technology Canada.

“Traditional cement production has a huge environmental impact when it comes to GHG emissions. ZS2 Technologies is using waste products from extractive industries as feedstock for a cement alternative,” said Leah Lawrence, president and CEO of Sustainable Development and Technology Canada, in a statement.

ZS2 was named one of the Top 60 Milestone 1 companies worldwide in the $100 million Carbon Removal XPRIZE funded by the Musk Foundation.
