Dutch construction firm Ballast Nedam has secured a €25 million ($31.9 million) contract from Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname NV, a state oil company of Suriname, to deliver general civil, and steel piling works for Tout Lui Faut Refinery expansion project.

Pursuant to the contract, Ballast Nedam is responsible to supply and installation of 373 steel piles, the processing of approximately 28,800 cubic meters of concrete, and the associated earthworks for the foundations of the expansion of the refinery.

Work on site is slated to commence in April 2012 and set for completion in June 2013. Upon completion, the Refinery Expansion Project will double the processing capacity at Tout Lui Faut Refinery to 15,000 barrels per day. The expanded refinery will produce diesel, gasoline, fuel oil, bitumen, and sulphuric acid.

The project supports Ballast Nedam’s strategy of focusing on integrated projects and on the niche markets industrial construction, hospitals, offshore wind turbines, secondary raw materials and alternative fuels.
