First Transit has extended its longest running partnership with the Duluth Transit Authority (DTA) for a five-year term. For more than 46 years, First Transit has been providing transit management solutions for DTA.

First Transit Area Vice President Dennis Jensen has served as general manager at DTA since 1979. Jensen and his staff of 154 deliver transit services for DTA’s 62 fixed-route and nine paratransit buses, moving 3.3 million passengers annually.

“Great partnerships and great people, that’s the core of our business,” said Brad Thomas, president of First Transit. “I am proud of the long-term partnership and transportation solutions First Transit brings to DTA.”

For Jensen’s dedication to the community and DTA, the new $31 million Duluth Transportation Center that opened earlier this year in downtown Duluth was dedicated in Jensen’s name with a plaque honoring his decades of leadership. The Duluth Transportation Center is a multimodal hub for DTA connecting passengers to Jefferson Lines, Indian Trails and Arrowhead Transit intercity and regional bus services.

“With every decision, Dennis makes sure passengers are the priority,” said John Brostrom, president, DTA board of directors. “He is a consummate professional, always providing an excellent customer experience.”

For First Transit, Jensen also oversees transit management operations for Sioux Area Metro, Sioux Fall, S.D.; CitiBus, Davenport, Iowa; and El Metro, Laredo, Texas.DTA also services the communities of Procter and Hermantown, Minn., and Superior, Wis.
