Addison Homes Highlighted in Habitat Building Guide

A partnership between Addison Homes and Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County has earned mention in the “High Performance Home Building Guide for Habitat for Humanity Affiliates.”

The Greenville-based homebuilder and the local non-profit affiliate were the only South Carolina entities highlighted in the national guide, which was prepared by the Federation of American Scientists to assist Habitat for Humanity programs across the country in their efforts to build sustainable housing. The publication provides comprehensive advice to Habitat affiliates and other affordable housing advocates on building high-performance homes utilizing cost-effective, volunteer-friendly materials and techniques.

The Addison/Habitat partnership was one of only nine examples of successful programs featured in the guide. Todd Usher, president of Addison Homes, has partnered with Habitat Greenville for the past three years as an energy-efficiency consultant and third party rater. Together, the homebuilder and non-profit build and certify 15-20 homes per year to ENERGY STAR® and EarthCraft House™ standards.

“Addison Homes is proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity as we merge our commitment to building green with the goal of providing decent housing for all families,” Usher says. “We want to dispel the myth that high-performance construction cannot be cost-effective. You can build a green house—one that’s healthier, more comfortable and more durable—that’s also affordable.”

Monroe Free, president of Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County, agrees. “This effort is good for the families we serve and the Greenville community as a whole. We’re grateful for the chance to be part of this program.”
