The World Bank Group has approved an additional funding of $60 million to provide electricity to more household and public institutions in Rwanda.

The funding is being provided for phase II of Rwanda’s Electricity Access Rollout Program (EARP). The program aims at providing electricity to the households, schools and hospitals. The phase II of the program is being directed at providing 70% of Rwandan households with electricity access by 2017.

The funding has been provided by the International Development Association, (IDA), an arm of the World Bank that provides fund for the world’s poorest countries.

The EARP is a multi-donor program jointly financed by the African Development Bank, Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa, Belgium, European Union (EU), Japan, Netherlands, OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), Saudi Fund and the World Bank, which have mobilized $348.2 million for the project.
