Carillion Alawi has been awarded a contract to build the Al Baleed Hotel Resort in Salalah.
The resort complex will be built at the Al Baleed World Heritage Site, which is an ancient city in the Dhofar Governate which was the centre of the area’s frankincense trade.
According to reports, Carillion Alawi has been awarded the main contract to build the resort, which will contain 136 guest properties rooms, spas, recreation facilities and food and drink outlets.
Some 106 of the properties will be one-, two- and three-bed chalets with their own private courtyard swimming pools.
Unusually, the project will be delivered by a Public Private Partnership run by a joint venture between the government’s tourism development arm, Omran, and MB Group property development arm Musstir.
Carillion Alawi is set to make a start on site on the project next month on a two-year build programme due to finish by the end of 2014, with an expected opening date for the hotel of Q1 2015.
The hotel will be operated by Thailand-based hospitality firm Anantara.
