Weldex, a UK-based crawler crane rental company, has deployed its 1,350 tonne capacity Liebherr LR11350 crawler crane for the erection of Emirates Air Line cable car crossing in London. The crane will be used to erect the South Tower of the cable car. Construction of the South Tower is schedule to commence this week. The crawler crane will be erected with a maximum height of 183m and a maximum radius of 120m.

It will be used to lift and station approximately 68 tonnes weighing tower sections. The crawler crane was brought to the site in more than 70 trucks and was assembled on-site over a period of two week. The South Tower will be the only tower built on the Thames and will be the tallest and the heaviest of the three towers. The tower will consist of 6,500 steel pieces, which will vary in length between 30-50 mm.

Weldex has secured the contract from Mace, which has secured contract from Transport for London (TfL) to design, build and operate the Emirates Air Line cable car crossing over the Thames. The crossing which will create a directly connect the O2 and ExCeL and additional interchange between the Docklands Light Railway and Jubilee line.
