PinnacleHealth System, a community-based health care system in the US state of Pennsylvania, has inaugurated the $27 million Donald B and Dorothy L Stabler Emergency Department at Harrisburg Hospital on South Front Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The new department nearly triples capacity to 110,000 patients per year. The original emergency room was designed to handle 41,000 patient visits per year, and had been over capacity at 60,000 patient visits annually.The expanded ER will be able to handle about 110,000 patients per annum. The new ER has two times more examination rooms that offer higher privacy to the patients suffering from sexual assault or mental illness. The PinnacleHealth Foundation raised $12 million of the cost through a capital campaign. Harrisburg Hospital had appointed Harrisburg-based Reynolds Construction Management Inc. as the general contractor and Baltimore-based Francis Cauffman as the architect for the project.
