The Perth Amboy Public Library on Jefferson Street, New Jersey, US is set to undergo a restoration and expansion project worth about $10 million.Renovation work on the 108-year-old facility involves replacing its outdated roof and windows as well as installation of a glass enclosure in the rear portion of the structure.

Plans also include installation of low energy-consuming windows substituting the large front windows. Installation of the new windows will cut down heating expenses and will negate requirements of shades to protect the blazing sun rays. These windows will also create a spacious feel to the existing infrastructure.

The revamped building will retain some of the old features like the original wood shelves, art work and the narrow staircase between book shelves. Plans have also been undertaken to repair and restore the locally created terra cotta murals featuring children’s stories in the upgraded library.

Work on the roof and windows of the facility is likely to receive contributions from a $100,000 city grant received from the Middlesex County Sustainable Economic Growth Improvement Fund. The city has been provided with Community Development Block Grant funds amounting to $130,000 along with an extra $325,000 in grants from the Middlesex County.
