Tappan Zee Constructors, a consortium of Fluor Enterprises Incorporated, American Bridge Company, Granite Construction Northeast Incorporated and Traylor Bros. Incorporated, has secured a $3.14 billion design-build contract from the New York State Thruway Board for the new Tappan Zee Hudson River Crossing Project in New York.

The design of the bridge leverages a shallow superstructure and a 350-feet long-span design, which reduces the number of piers rendering a sleek look to the bridge that enhances the view of the corridors within the Hudson Valley.

The design will reduce the quantities of dredge from 1.8 million cubic yards to less than one million cubic yards, which will bring down the environmental impacts, costs and schedule durations.

The main span of the bridge is a composite deck cable-stayed structural system with outwardly inclined main span towers, which will enable it to accommodate future transit system loads.

The bridge will have a total length of 3.1 miles and will establish a connection between Rockland County and Westchester County in the Lower Hudson Valley.

The construction work on the bridge is scheduled to last for five years and is set to be completed in 2018. Upon completion, the bridge will serve approximately 138,000 vehicles per day.
