Skanska Norway have signed a contract with the Norwegian Public Road Authority (NPRA) to build Fv. 659 Nordøyvegen in Møre and Romsdal county, Norway. The contract is worth about NOK 3 billion, about SEK 3.2 billion, which will be included in the Nordic order bookings for the fourth quarter 2018.

The Nordøyvegen will link Nordøyane with the mainland via fillings, bridges and tunnels under the sea. In total, 13 kilometers of road under the sea, divided into three tunnels will be built, as well as 8 kilometers of road with three bridges. The project has great sustainability ambitions and will be certified according to the international sustainability standard CEEQUAL.

Nordøyveien means that the islands of Lepsøya, Harmasøya, Skuleøya / Flemsøya, Fjørtofta, and Harøya will be reached without ferry. On January 1, 2020, the islands become part of the municipality of Ålesund. The new road will lay the foundation for growth on the islands. The NPRA conducts the expansion on behalf of Møre and Romsdal County.

Construction starts in March 2019 and the contract will be handed over by May 2022.

Skanska is one of the leading development and construction companies in the Nordics, with operations in building construction and civil engineering in Sweden, Norway and Finland, and developing residential- and commercial property projects in select home markets. The commercial development stream is also active in Denmark. Skanska offers services in public-private partnerships. Skanska had sales of about SEK 65 billion and more than 15,000 employees in its Nordic operations during 2017.
