Siemens has announced that it has been awarded a series of power plant deals in Libya with a combined value of E100m ($135.6m).

The contracts were awarded by the General Electricity Company of Libya and have been granted for the upgrade of two existing power plants in the cities of Khoms and Ruwais.

Siemens will inspect and overhaul both the Khoms Steam Power Plant and the Western Mountain Gas Turbine Power Plant in Ruwais. It said that the work would ensure both plants woulc continue to run safely and efficiently.

“We are committed to supporting the reconstruction of Libya’s infrastructure and to this end, a safe, reliable and efficient power network is absolutely essential,” said Dietmar Siersdorfer, CEO of Siemens Energy Middle East. “The signing of these contracts is an excellent demonstration of our long-term commitment to Libya.

“Ensuring power plants continue to operate at their optimum is a crucial element of the country’s development and the maintenance, modification and upgrading of existing infrastructure is an efficient method of enhancing the performance of mature fleets to bring them in line with newly-constructed facilities.”
