Willmott Dixon has secured a $22.6m (£16m) contract to construct Northgate Yard, a mixed-use regeneration project in Bridgwater town centre, Somerset, the UK.

The firm has been appointed by Sedgemoor District Council. Planned to be completed in October 2022, the 40,000ft² scheme will feature a seven-screen cinema, an eight-lane bowling alley and sports bar facilities.

Additionally, the scheme will have outdoor meeting places and landscaping, as well as flexible space in four restaurant units with outdoor dining areas.

The project will also include improvements to the adjacent green space, Brewery Field, to feature an outdoor children’s play area and parkland with a pond and landscaped planting.

Willmott Dixon area director Rob Woolcock said: “This is going to be a fantastic leisure and entertainment facility for the people of Bridgwater.

“We have worked closely with Sedgemoor District Council to ensure the project benefits the local community as much as possible through working with a local supply chain and providing apprenticeships and training.”

South West company Scott Cinemas will operate the seven-screen cinema while the ten-pin bowling alley will be operated by regional firm Allstars.

Sedgemoor District Council leader Duncan McGinty said: “Northgate Yard is set to be a landmark destination for locals and tourists. One of the stand-out things about this project is the huge amount of community support.

“This is a much wanted and needed development and we’re delighted there is such an eagerness for this project to come to fruition, delivering a first-class leisure and entertainment hub for the area.”

Recently, Willmott Dixon was selected by Hounslow Council in the UK to deliver a $45m (£31.8m) housing complex, Frank Towell Court.

The new complex, which will be built in Feltham, will comprise two eight-storey residential towers, a four-storey block of flats and seven Mews houses.
