UK-based construction firm Kier Group has announced that construction work is in progress on £20 million ($31.35 million) Winsford E-ACT Academy in Cheshire, UK.

The new academy building will feature a 400-seat theatre, labs, workshops, design studios, music rooms, a fitness suite and a five-court sports hall. The interiors of the academy will comprise of a central corridor area with glass-fronted classrooms on either side, open spaces, balconies and canteen. It will accommodate up to 1,700 pupils and is set to open in September 2013.

The academy’s approach to outdoor learning sees a garden, allotments and full reconstruction of World War trenches, which are all part of the design. The project has been funded by the Government. It is a partnership between Cheshire West and Chester Council, the academy and sponsors of E-ACT.
