Surface Coatings Improving Long Term Floor Durability

The longevity of a floor is determined not just by its core material, but by the invisible barrier that protects it from the world. Through the application of high-performance surface coatings, ranging from ceramic-reinforced polyurethanes to advanced UV-cured resins, modern buildings are achieving unprecedented levels of wear resistance and chemical protection, ensuring a sustainable and cost-effective lifecycle for architectural surfaces.

Graham has secured an ยฃ18.3m contract to design and build a cancer centre at Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, UK, for North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The cancer centre construction project was awarded to Graham through the Procure22 Framework.

Under the contract, Graham will build an 18-bay chemotherapy suite, a three-bed bay for day patients, two LINAC bunkers and a CT scanner suite.

The project also involves consultation and examination rooms, clinical planning and mould rooms, and extra space for support staff.

Graham healthcare director Keith Hayes said: โ€œThe project to create a new cancer centre at Cumberland Infirmary will play a vital role in improving facilities and services available to clinicians, patients and families across the region. Itโ€™s a crucial piece of work, and a positive step towards realising the NHS England Specialised Commissionersโ€™ strategy for delivering sustainable models for cancer services in Cumbria.

โ€œGraham enjoys a strong track record of delivery across the healthcare sector and we look forward to working with partners to help realise a project that will have a really positive impact for those who rely on the specialist care services offered at North Cumbria University Hospital.โ€

Services to be provided in the new facility will consist of radiotherapy, day-case chemotherapy, oncology late phase clinical trials and oncology outpatient clinics.

For the new facility, modular dry interlocking blocks will be used in the construction of the LINAC bunkers, which will offer protection from radiation outside of the bunkers.

The design of the building will aim to ease patient flow through the facility and prioritise patient health and comfort, along with the cliniciansโ€™ needs.

The project is currently in the design phase. Work on the project is slated to complete in January 2021.
