The Galliford Try-built Import Building, has received further recognition after being named Commercial Project of the Year at the Structural Timber Awards.

The £20m project was the extensive refurbishment of a 1990s-built 10-storey office building in the East India dock complex in London, and was celebrated for its use of a spectacular internal Glulam timber structure throughout the ¬atrium area.

Not only did the use of Glulam provide a fantastic visual finish, it also saved the building over 300,000kg of carbon compared to steel or concrete construction methods, helping the project reach a BREEAM very good rating.

The project has already won the Commercial Project of the Year award from the Offsite Awards and has been shortlisted as finalist at the Building Awards later this year.

Matthew Pool, Managing Director of Galliford Try London and South East Commercial, commented: “This technically challenging and complex project deserves the recognition it is receiving for what is an impressive final product. The team and all those involved with the scheme are to be congratulated for what they have achieved and awards such as this are a just reward for their efforts.”
