Balfour Beatty Reaches Financial Close for C$322M Borden Data Centre in Ontario, Canada

Balfour Beatty Investments, a leading investor, developer and operator of Public-Private Partnership projects, announces today that it has reached financial close for the Enterprise Data Centre (EDC) Borden Expansion Project with Defence Construction Canada, a Crown corporation, in Ontario, Canada. Balfour Beatty will invest approximately C$5.4 million into the project, which represents 50% of the equity required.

The PPP (P3) project is a C$322 million contract to design, construct, finance and to provide facilities management for a new 10,000m2 data centre located on the Canadian Forces Base in Borden, Ontario. Construction is expected to commence in June 2016 and the first of four phases of new the facility will be completed in fall of 2017.

Balfour Beatty Investments and Forum Equity Partners will finance the project. Construction services will be delivered by Walsh Canada; architectural services will be provided by WZMH, engineering services by Ehvert Mission Critical, and facilities management will be delivered by Brookfield Global Integrated Solutions, all Canadian firms, over the 25-year concession period.

The EDC Borden Expansion Project is a new modern and secure facility which is being procured in order to consolidate more than 400 existing data centers throughout the Provinces. The ultimate owner of the facilities will be Shared Services Canada.
