Beard has been awarded a £5m framework project by West Sussex County Council to extend a school in Horsham for West Sussex County Council.

Work began in April at Tanbridge House School, a specialist mathematics, science and community college, and is scheduled to complete by September 2016.

Beard is building a new two-storey science block with labs and classrooms, as well as a single-storey extension to the existing drama hall and a two-storey teaching block.

Beard is also extending the school’s main hall and carrying out additional refurbishments and alterations to other school buildings. The development and expansion of the school’s facilities will accommodate an additional 300 students.

Beard is managing the pre-construction design development and planning application submission for the expansion project which was submitted in January.

Contracts manager Gareth Philips said. “West Sussex County Council are strong advocates of collaborative working and early contractor involvement to maximise value for money.  Beard and our design team have developed the project from concept, through planning, detailed design and will continue through to construction which will involve working very closely with WSCC and the school to provide them with much needed new facilities for their expansion.”
