Trackunit and DEWALT, a Stanley Black & Decker brand, have entered a strategic partnership to deliver tool location intelligence across construction jobsites. This collaborative effort integrates DEWALT Tool Connect technology with the Trackunit Network, a prominent Bluetooth network in construction. Consequently, contractors can now pinpoint DEWALT tools using equipment that is already connected on various sites.
For major contractors overseeing tens of thousands of assets, ensuring the availability of necessary tools represents a critical operational hurdle. A single missing item can stall a crew, delay deadlines, and lead to expensive penalties. Furthermore, construction equipment theft exacerbates these issues, costing the U.S. industry between $300 million and $1 billion annually, according to the National Equipment Register and National Insurance Crime Bureau. Studies indicate that recovery rates remain low, frequently under 25%, and occasionally below 7%, leaving the majority of stolen assets unrecovered.
Through this alliance, site managers gain a consolidated view of their operations via Trackunit. Eric Loeliger, group product manager at DEWALT, stated: โThe network is the largest challenge in deploying tool tracking at scale.โ โThis partnership turns the infrastructure contractors already have into a detection network for their DEWALT tools, with significantly less effort.โ Fred Rio, senior vice president of product at Trackunit, added: โTo cut search time and maximize time-on-tool, contractors need to know they have the right tools in the right place before work begins.โ โThe Trackunit Network is already on-site. This partnership puts DEWALT tools on that network from day one.โ
The global launch initially focuses on tool location intelligence across contractor operations. Both firms are moving toward enhanced data capabilities as the DEWALT Tool Connect platform matures.
