Crossrail has announced that its tunnelling machine (TBM) Victoria has broken through into the new Canary Wharf station box in London.
The TBM has joined sister TBM Elizabeth in Canary Wharf box after breaking through on 6 June 2013.
Crossrail’s eastern tunnelling machines were launched from the Limmo site near Canning Town towards the end of 2012 to create 8.3km (5.16 miles) of tunnels from east London to Farringdon. A 26-mile section of tunnels beneath London will be built in total for Crossrail.
Both machines will now undergo maintenance inside the Canary Wharf station box before being transitted through the station box to resume tunnelling towards central London.
The eastern tunnels Limmo Peninsula and Farringdon, Pudding Mill Lane and Stepney Green and Victoria Dock Portal and Limmo are being delivered by joint venture Dragados Sisk.
