Tajikistan’s foreign ministry announced that the contract on the construction of Eini power plant will be sorted within the framework of President Ahmadinejad’s official visit to Tajikistan late in March.

The necessary technical and engineering researches and studies of the project have been completed already.

According to the Iranian experts’ initial plan, the project includes construction of a power plant with a dam which can generate 130 megawatt of electricity per hour.

Tajik deputy minister of energy and industries Poulad Mohyeddinov said that the second phase of Tajikistan’s Sangtoudeh-II power plant is scheduled to come online during the upcoming Nowrouz festivities.

Nowrouz, which coincides with the first day of spring on the solar calendar, is mostly celebrated in Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, India, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan. This year 21 March coincides with the first day of Nowrouz.

President Ahmadinejad and his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon will officially inaugurate Tajikistan’s Sangtoudeh-II concurrent with Nowrouz festivities.

“The construction of Sangtoudeh-II hydropower plant is in its final stage and the second cycle of this plant will become operational during Nowrouz festivities,” Mohyeddinov told FNA.

Meantime, he said that the Tajik Electricity Company is due to pay its overdue debts to Sangtoudeh-II power plant in 2013.
