CEMEX was the exclusive supplier of lightweight concrete for the new Concourse 3 project at Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport. The company supplied over 10,500 m³ for the concourse which is intended for the sole use of Emirates Airlines and will become the largest facility dedicated to double-deck aircrafts in the world.

When completed later this year, the 528,000 m² concourse will house two hotels, first-class and business-class lounges, and shops and increase the airport’s annual passenger capacity to 80 million.

CEMEX was awarded the supply contract due in large part to an extensive successful track record with Dubai Civil Aviation, the project client, including major concrete supplies at Jebel Ali (Maktoum) Airport and Terminal 3’s Concourse 2 at Dubai International Airport. Concreting for the current concourse began in December 2009 and is currently at the finishing stages.

For this project, CEMEX engineered a special light weight concrete mix design, using a proprietary engineered, environmentally friendly aggregate which carries the notable benefits of reduced mass as well as superior color, strength, and consistency. This mix has the versatility to be used in both slabs and structural elements, and was also designed to enhance various durability criteria, such as chemical resistance, permeability reduction and fire resistance.

CEMEX in the UAE maintains a loyal and sophisticated customer base in the two main urban markets of Dubai, and the capital Abu Dhabi. This thanks in part to a large portfolio of highly innovative concrete solutions offered by the company to its clients. CEMEX is proud to provide building solutions for major projects such as Concourse 3 of Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport.
