Detroit Medical Center (DMC) has broken ground on its new $78 million, DMC Heart Hospital, a cardiovascular hospital in Midtown Detroit, Michigan, US.

Sprawling on an eight acre site at the south end of the 60 acre DMC campus, near the intersection of Mack and Brush Avenues, the five storey hospital will provide state-of-the-art facilities for cardiac treatment, research and heart disease prevention.

The first floor of the new facility will house facilities for non-invasive cardiology procedures and tests among others, the second floor will house invasive cardiology procedures, and catheterization labs, the third floor will house same-day surgery and out-patient surgery rooms, while office and clinical space and administrative headquarters will be housed on the building’s fourth and fifth floors.

Along with the new facility, DMC is also building a $30 million, nine-level parking garage to accomodate approximately 1750 automobiles. The project is anticipated to generate about 250 full-time jobs for construction workers and tradesmen and is scheduled for completion in about two years.
