There have been plans unveiled by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund for its upcoming mega project, which is going to be a 400m tall and 400m wide cube city that will be called The Mukaab.
The Public Investment Fund confirms that the building, which is going to be large enough to hold 20 Empire State Buildings, is going to be the centrepiece of the new downtown in Riyadh. This project is going to be a part of the much larger New Murabba project, which has been announced by Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz. The project is going to be overseen by the New Murabba Development Company.
The Mukaab, apparently, promises to be one of the largest built structures across the globe and is inspired by the Nadji style of architecture. Its developers confirm that the project is going to offer ever-changing environments by way of using virtual and digital technology to create holographics. The cube is also going to have a tower on top of the spiral base and a structure that will consist of 2 million sq. m. of floor space which is going to be a hospitality destination that will house retail, tourist, and cultural attractions. It is also going to feature residential as well as hotel units, as well as recreational facilities along with commercial spaces.
It is well to be noted that the wider New Murabba project will have walking and cycle paths, green areas so as to promote healthy lifestyles. There are also plans to build a museum and a theatre, as well as more than 80 entertainment and cultural venues. The project is going to be located on the King Salman and King Khalid intersection roads in the northwest of Riyadh, across an area of 19 square kilometres. There are plans to construct 104,000 residential units, 9000 hotel rooms, retail space measuring 980,000 sq. m., as well as 1.4 million sq. m. of office space. There is also going to be 1.8 million square metres of space exclusively dedicated to community facilities.
The new Murabba project is going to be a 20-minute drive from the airport and promises working, living, and entertainment spaces within a waking radius of 15 minutes. The entire project is eyeing completion by 2030.
