Norton Healthcare, a US-based healthcare system, has unveiled its plans to develop a women’s and children’s hospital, worth $120 million, at the Norton Suburban Hospital location in Louisville, Kentucky in the US.

The unnamed healthcare facility will provide the community with a transformational model of comprehensive health care for women along with expanded services from Kosair Children’s Hospital. The Norton Suburban Hospital of the system will be renovated to accommodate these new services.

Upon completion, the facility will include as many as 50 medical/surgical beds dedicated to paediatric and adolescent patients in addition to the existing 40-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

It also features a paediatric-based Emergency Department at the new hospital, paediatric surgical services, paediatric imaging services, a wellness component and expanded concierge services.

Kosair Children’s Hospital will be able to enhance its neonatal ICU space, expand its paediatric ICU, create a paediatric coronary care unit and improve space in the existing Emergency Department.

Phase I of the project is expected to be completed by January 2012 and the entire project is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2013.
