Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, HOCHTIEF (UK) Construction Ltd, and Costain Limited are going to be a part of a long-term arrangement named Infrastructure Delivery Partnership (IDP).

The collaboration is going to deliver projects as well as tasks to go ahead and support necessary services at Sellafield, such as electricity distribution, road and rail networks, water, bridges, foundations, and also security installations.

It has been designed so as to deliver value for money and at the same time also create investment in innovation, skills, and capability, along with sustainability, in order to offer benefit to Sellafield as well as its local communities.

The contracts are going to be for an initial 9 years with an alternative for a further 6 years, till 2040.

The work happens to be split into 3 lots –

  • Electrical distribution partner, which is going to be taken care of by Morgan Sindall Infrastructure
  • Utilities partner, which will be undertaken by Costain Limited
  • Civils partner by HOCHTIEF (UK) Construction Ltd

Under these contracts, the companies are going to complete the detail design as well as all procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning, as well as the handover activities, which happen to be part of the project delivery.

The contracts also happen to include commitments so as to help create a very thriving and sustainable local community located across West Cumbria, which is aligned to the social impact strategy of Sellafield.

These happen to include –

  • Helping the local business growth
  • Helping the companies to get work at Sellafield and also beyond
  • Creating valid employment
  • Creating a skilled labor pool pertaining to the IDP, which the local businesses can also go on to access
  • Offering opportunities in terms of internships, apprenticeships, upskilling, and work placements, as well as work experience
  • Prominent commitment of employee volunteering hours in order to support the third sector organizations

The companies are also going to develop a joint sustainability plan in order to ensure a joined-up approach that is in sync with local priorities and also delivers maximum effect as well as return on investment.

IDP happens to be a major element of the overarching acquisition strategy by Sellafield Ltd and also replaces the present Infrastructure Strategic Alliance.

According to Sellafield Ltd chief supply chain officer James Riddick, their job at Sellafield happens to be to create a clean as well as a safe environment for the future generations, which means safely and securely as well as cost-effectively dealing with the legacy of historic operations on their site.

In order to deliver this, they require some robust as well as dependable infrastructure so as to support their nuclear decommissioning as well as waste management activities.

IDP happens to be quite a long-term strategic partnership that is designed to offer that support while at the same time unlocking investment as well as opportunities for the local community and delivering sustainable value for money when it comes to the taxpayer.

Riddick added that they are indeed excited to welcome their new partners, and they also look forward to working together to progress their mission while at the same time also creating transformational as well as enduring social value.

The chief executive officer of Costain, Alex Vaughan, said that this new contract award with Sellafield, with whom they have been working for almost a couple of decades, is indeed a testament to their strategy of developing long-term relationships along with the tier 1 customers, building some robust and collaborative partnerships, widening their service offering, and at the same time also maintaining consistency along with the continuity of workflows.

He added that this long-term award goes on to further demonstrate their integral position in the civil nuclear energy market of the UK. The government happens to be quite clear that the safe as well as responsible decommissioning of the nuclear legacy in the UK is indeed a very crucial part of creating a sustainable future and at the same time also delivering local as well as national economic prosperity. Being one of the trusted partners of Sellafield, they are going to deliver high-quality as well as safe utility upgrades in a working environment that’s intricate.

Morgan Sindall Infrastructure’s managing director remarked that they have been delivering across West Cumbria for more than 15 years and that they are very much delighted to build upon this further with the award of the Infrastructure Delivery Partnership. This sort of long-term programme is not just nationally significant when it comes to Sellafield as well as its decommissioning program, but they know the firsthand benefits it happens to offer the local communities as well as the region from an award of this magnitude.

He added that this award truly reflects the brilliant work that their teams have delivered and still continue to deliver.

The CEO of HOCHTIEF, Juan Santamaría Cases, said that HOCHTIEF happens to hold an unbroken legacy when it comes to the nuclear sector ever since the 1950s and happens to be a trusted partner when it comes to engineering as well as construction for some of the most critical nuclear programs in the world. Together, along with Sellafield as well as its delivery partners, they have secured this strategic as well as long-term partnership. The award happens to build on the expanding portfolio from HOCHTIEF pertaining to the long-term delivery contracts having globally significant clients throughout the nuclear as well as infrastructure verticals.
