The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development in US has opened the $803 million, I-10 Twin Span Bridges replacement project for commuters in Louisiana, which is several months ahead of schedule.

The project will relieve congestion, improve commercial access to the Port of New Orleans and provide a crucial evacuation route for city residents. The new bridge spanning more than five miles over Lake Pontchartrain is the important part of the east-west link for New Orleans and provides 8.6 million tons of commercial shipments traveling to and from the Port of New Orleans.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has designed the Twin Span bridges with 30 feet high, 21 feet taller, which make more resistant to storm surge. The bridge will last for 100 years, and the improved anchoring system will prevent bridge spans from floating off.
