The US Department of Transportation has awarded $426 million to critical infrastructure projects across 12 states through the Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight & Highway Projects program, known as INFRA.
The largest awards include $85.1 million for an 8-mile, four-lane highway project in Kentucky and $85 million for lane additions along approximately 20 miles of Interstate 4 in Florida. The funding will support bypass expansions and highway improvements on some of the busiest routes in the US.
INFRA Grants Target Freight And Highway Improvements
The INFRA grants are part of the $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and provide competitive funding aimed at strengthening US supply chains and improving freight and passenger movement.
The funding follows an extension of federal surface transportation programs under the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions, signed on September 2. The extension applies to the Highway Trust Fund and keeps programs including INFRA authorized.
