Costain, one of the engineering solutions providers from UK, in joint venture with Skanska, has been awarded a contract by Crossrail Limited which is worth an aggregate of about £40 million ($63 million).

The JV will provide all works associated with the construction and fit out of the intermediate shafts and headhouses at Eleanor Street and Mile End Park, along with the connecting adits to the main running tunnels. The shafts will provide access for ventilation, maintenance intervention, emergency exit and emergency services access for the operational railway.

This is the fifth contract won by Costain-Skanska JV from Crossrail with earlier successful developments being Royal Oak Portal and Pudding Mill Lane portals.

Work on the project is expected to commence immediately and is scheduled for completion in August 2018.
