Peab has been appointed under an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) scheme to work on a complex project to upgrade a pinch-point on Sweden’s rail network.

The Swedish Transport Administration scheme has an estimated cost of SEK2.4bn (£187m) at June 2009’s price level.

Project Olskroken involves building new, grade-separated tracks to improve throughput at a key node rail system serving Gothenburg and Western Sweden. Five rail lines converge at Olskroken, most of them on the same level. A conversion into grade-separated tracks is needed to increase the capacity of the rail system and improve services.

Procurement of Project Olskroken is being performed under the ECI contract model. Peab will be involved right from the early stages and will be responsible for the detailed design prior to construction, which is scheduled to start in 2017/2018. The project is planned to last until the 2024.

Project Olskrogen is divided in two phases. Phase 1 tasks include planning, design and preparation of the target price and more while the second phase includes a turnkey contract covering the detailed design and construction.
