A new FIDIC guide to integrate carbon management into FIDIC contracts is to be launched at an international contracts conference in London in December.
The FIDIC Carbon Management Guide, which offers users information on how to integrate carbon management into FIDIC contracts, will be launched at this year’s Official FIDIC International Contract Users’ Conference which takes place in London from 1-4 December. The guide was previewed at a webinar on 30 October 2025 where attendees learned more about the guide’s key features, structure and role within FIDIC’s broader sustainability agenda, as well as highlighting how it supports the adoption of carbon management practices across global infrastructure projects.
The guide underscores FIDIC’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and decarbonisation and complements the FIDIC Climate Change Charter which was launched in 2021 and sets out in basic, initial terms, how to address climate mitigation, adaptation and resilience of the built environment. The charter also emphasises the need for innovation in procurement and contracts, with carbon reduction goals and measurable metrics., and the new guide performs that important role.

The webinar on 30 October (see image above) highlighted the role of FIDIC’s contracts as a key driver for change. FIDIC contracts committee member Adriana Spassova said that the new guide was a key development for FIDIC and stressed the importance of all stakeholders on projects collaborating to improve the carbon balance sheet. She praised the collaborative effort of stakeholders in producing the new guide which she said had the potential to have a significant impact on contract management and the integration of a robust carbon measurement and management process.
A range of knowledgeable industry experts spoke at the webinar, including lawyers, expert witnesses, adjudicators, sustainability consultants, engineers, contract managers, MDB representatives and other business leaders. All were welcoming of the new FIDIC Carbon Management Guide and were looking forward to its launch in London in December.
Speaking at the webinar, FIDIC’s chief legal and contracts officer Daduna Kokhreidze said that the guide marks a significant evolution in construction contracts, making sustainability a contractual priority. Contractors had a critical role to play, she said, through their actions, innovations and collaborative efforts and the guide would provide a structured framework that supports contractors in aligning their work with the global sustainable transition.
She also stressed the need when negotiating new contracts under the FIDIC Carbon Management Guide framework for all parties ensure a balanced allocation of risks. “Achieving green targets is a collaborative effort, avoiding an undue burden on any single party, particularly the contractor,” she said. Concluding the webinar, Kokhreidze said that she hoped that the guide would be implemented across all of the 170 countries that use FIDIC contracts to make a significant difference on global infrastructure projects.
The new FIDIC Carbon Management Guide for FIDIC contracts will be launched at the 2025 Official FIDIC International Contract Users’ Conference and Awards in London on 1-4 December. The conference promises to be a must-attend event for all those working with FIDIC contracts and will offer delegates an indispensable update on FIDIC’s market-leading contract suite as well as discussing the latest developments in the international contracts arena, highlighting key and emerging issues and giving attendees the opportunity to meet and network with key global stakeholders from across the FIDIC contracts ecosystem.
