Skanska has received two awards from New Civil Engineer: Low Carbon Leader and Clients’ Choice.

Held on Wednesday 11 May, the inaugural NCE100 Companies of the Year Awards recognise and reward firms that embrace and inspire excellence, making engineering workplaces a great place to be.

Skanska received the prestigious Clients’ Choice Award, as chosen by the 12 client judges on the panel. The judges were asked to name the best firm, based on their own experiences and through meeting company representatives during the judging process. The panel included senior managers from Crossrail, High Speed 2, Anglian Water, Network Rail and Transport for London.

The judges commented on how Skanska is driving the technology agenda through industry-wide collaboration to expand the use of automation and 3D printing. The Skanska team was also seen as leading the use of visualisation technology in BIM to reduce risk, increase productivity and deliver without defects and with reduced waste.

Skanska also received the Low Carbon Leader Award for its Bentley Works in Doncaster. This award recognises companies with an approach to sustainability that provides a real step change in the way the industry views whole-life cost and asset management

The NCE100 judges said Bentley Works clearly demonstrated how its corporate, low carbon ethos was translated into its delivery process and, more importantly, how it impacted the results. They were also impressed with the development of Skanska’s Color PaletteTM to calibrate the carbon reduction on all projects globally.

Mike Putnam, Skanska UK President and CEO, commented “It’s fantastic to win these two awards. To be recognised as a leader in low carbon emphasises our continued focus on delivering greener solutions and understanding the environmental consequences of everything we do.

“We are particularly pleased to receive the Clients’ Choice Award. Our achievements rely on the positive and collaborative relationships we maintain with our customers and supply chain. It’s a true accolade to have them acknowledged in this way.
