Loews Hotels & Resorts has acquired the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort, located in the Catalina Mountain range in the Sonoran Desert, US.

Loews Hotels has managed the 398-room resort since its inauguration in December 1984.

Tucson’s Estes family will retain a minority interest in the resort, which will undergo a renovation starting in 2015.

Loews Ventana Canyon Resort features two heated pools, a Jacuzzi, a spa, 26 plush suites, 37,000ft² of indoor function space and about 40,000ft² of outdoor space.

“The Estes company and Loews Hotels created an iconic resort that is still very much a part of the Tucson landscape.”

Loews Hotels & Resorts chairman Jonathan Tisch said: “Loews Ventana Canyon Resort was the first hotel I developed from start to finish when I returned to Loews Hotels in the early eighties.

“Conceptualised and built almost 30 years ago, the Estes company and Loews Hotels created an iconic resort that is still very much a part of the Tucson landscape and a classic property within our brand. We look forward to containing the partnerships with the Estes family and the city of Tucson as we launch the next exciting phase of the resort.”

Loews Hotels & Resorts owns and operates 23 hotels and resorts across the US and Canada.

The company has recently acquired the Loews Minneapolis Hotel, situated in the Minneapolis’ entertainment district, and the Loews Chicago O’Hare Hotel in Rosemont, Illinois.

Loews plans to open the new 400-room Loews Chicago Hotel in February 2015.
