A joint venture of Balfour Beatty and South West Highways has secured 10-year extension to its existing contract to maintain the 102km A30/A35 Exeter to Bere Regis trunk road.

The £40m contract is on behalf of Connect Roads, for ultimate customer Highways England.

The joint venture was appointed as the operations and maintenance contractor for the stretch of trunk road in 1996. In 2006 the joint venture was reappointed to deliver a contract with enhanced service delivery management responsibilities.

Core activities include emergency response as well as winter and routine maintenance. The team has also carried out projects including resurfacing more than 400,000m2 of the trunk road.

Project manager David May said: “The extension of our existing contract to 2026 is a clear testament to the hard work and commitment of our twenty strong site team over the past years. We look forward to continuing to provide further value to Connect Roads, Highways England and the 25,000 road-users who use this section of the route every day.“

The contract extension will commence on 1 October next year and run to 30 September 2026.
