Naji Mahmoud of RMJM has been given the title of Young Architect of the Year at the 2011 Cityscape Global Awards for Architecture and winner of the Opulence category of the Emirates Skywards Competition 2011 for his Systematic Morphologies research which evolved from the analysis and mapping of transformable variables. The design itself was derived from a rigorous digital process; physical modelling was incorporated to accurately modulate the shape of space and skin in response to shadow and light effects. Mahmoud was selected from 3,000 candidates from 79 countries who had submitted high quality entries from the Gulf States, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Asia.

Speaking on his success, the young architect admitted: โ€œWinning these awards will encourage me to further improve my abilities and to keep an open mind about my field. I consider both these achievements to be a direct result of being part of an outstanding professional design practice like RMJM.โ€
