Alstom and consortium partners Corsan, Corviam and Cosider have won a contract to extend Algeria’s Constantine-area tramway by 10km.

Alstom’s share of the contract – which was awarded by Algeria’s public transport operator Entreprise Metro d’Alger (EMA) – amounts to around €80m (£51m). The completion of the extension is scheduled for three years from now.
The extension will link the existing station of Zouaghi with the new city of Ali Mendjeli and with the Mohamed Boudiaf airport.
Alstom will supply the integrated system, tracks, catenaries, telecommunications and signalling, substations and ticketing equipment.
The extended line, which will tun for 18km kilometres in total once work is completed, will be equipped with the first Citadis trams manufactured in the north-east of Algeria by Cital, Alstom’s local joint-venture, formed with Ferrovial and EMA in 2010.
