Caterpillar is expanding its partnership with NVIDIA to advance AI-enabled solutions for its machines, digital platforms and manufacturing operations. The enhanced CAT NVIDIA AI partnership will enable next generation AI technologies to be applied to equipment, customer service applications and on the production floor.

The company announced at CES 2026 a new conversational tool named Cat AI Assistant, which will allow people to interact with the companyโ€™s machines and digital systems via voice or text. The assistant was developed on NVIDIA Riva open speech models and is designed to answer questions and provide guidance on how to operate equipment, perform maintenance tasks, and locate spare parts.

Voice activation gives operators the ability to control settings, troubleshoot problems and access support tools without leaving the cab. The Voice Services are enabled by data in Caterpillarโ€™s Helios unified platform that merges machine data and operational insights.

Expanding the existing CAT NVIDIA AI partnership, Caterpillar is deploying the NVIDIA Jetson Thor platform across its construction, mining and power equipment, allowing for on-machine, real-time AI processing. The goal is to future-proof machines for autonomy while enhancing the in-cab experience for operators.

The company said new features include an operator assistant that provides personalised insights, productivity guidance, safety alerts, and real-time recommendations based on sensor data collected from machines.

Caterpillar is also applying NVIDIA AI Factory infrastructure to its manufacturing operations. The goal is to improve forecasting and scheduling through greater automation.

In addition, Caterpillar is creating digital versions of its factories using the NVIDIA Omniverse platform and OpenUSD. These virtual models allow teams to test and refine factory layouts before making physical changes.

โ€œAs AI moves beyond data to reshape the physical world, it is unlocking new opportunities for innovation โ€” from job sites and factory floors to offices,โ€ said Caterpillar CEO Joe Creed.

โ€œCaterpillar is committed to solving our customersโ€™ toughest challenges by leading with advanced technology in our machines and every aspect of business. Our collaboration with NVIDIA is accelerating that progress like never before,โ€ he added.
