Muse Developments Limited, a UK-based development and regeneration specialist, has started work on the phase VI of development on the Smithfield regeneration project at Manchester’s Northern Quarter in the UK.

The latest phase of the project will include the construction of 77 apartments and over 6,000 square feet of ground floor commercial space. The residential units will be in a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.

Muse stated that the new residential project will be noted for high quality and contemporary appeal and will complements the architecture of the buildings built in previous phases. Muse has also committed to an initial stage of sensitive shell restoration and refurbishment of the Grade 2 listed building, called the Mackie Mayor.

The new phase is the second last phase of the Smithfield regeneration project, which began in 2001 and involved development of a mixed-use project. The project is being developed by Galliford Try, a UK-based construction company, and is being delivered by Ician Developments Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Muse Developments, in partnership with Manchester City Council.

The entire project is slated for completion in September 2014. The company has secured £6.5 million ($9.87 million) from the Homes and Communities Agency as part of the Get Britain Building programme.
