Qatar has banned the import and trade of construction steels below grade 500 to increase the quality of the building materials in the country, reports The Peninsula.

The Laboratory and Standardisation Affairs Department at the Ministry of Environment has stated that the quality of construction steels must comply with Qatari Building Code QCS2010. The Ministry has declared it is now mandatory that a laboratory test report must accompany  imported construction steels.

In addition, such reports will only be accepted if issued by ISO17025-certified laboratories, with a three-month validity, as well containing the signature and seal of the laboratory in question.

The test report issued by the laboratory of the manufacturing company should be attested by the international accredited laboratory, stated a release issued by the Ministry.

Importers are also required to sign a letter of undertaking to assume responsibility for consignments of construction steels imported into the country.
