Brazil government invites bids for Espírito Santo highway

Brazilian government has floated bids for a 25-year concession of highway BR-101 in the southeastern state of Espírito Santo which requires an investment of $1.13bn. The 476km highway spans from the Espírito Santo-Rio de Janeiro state line northward to the town of Macuri in neighboring Bahia state.

The wining firm will build 21.6km of side roads, install pedestrian walkways and speed control equipment by the fifth year of the concession. The concessionaire will expand half of the route by the sixth year and the other half by the 10th year.

The route will have seven toll booths with tolls set at between BRL2.22 ($1.19) and BRL5.18 ($2.77) and the toll charge ceiling price for the tender has been set at 0.062 reais/km.The bidding process is expected to start by17 November this year.
