The plant was used for the production of elements including Xbloc armour units, which are used for breakwaters and sea defences.

The facility in Zuidbroek will be Betonfabriek Vrijenban’s third in the Netherlands. The company already produces concrete elements, retaining walls and concrete mortars from production plants in Delft and Vianen.

The sale is in line with BAM’s ‘Back in Shape’ programme, which concluded that there were insufficient opportunities to continue activities of its concrete production facility. This then led to closure of the plant. The transaction with Betonfabriek Vrijenban relates only to the site and does not include a transfer of projects or guarantees.
